1/ NEW HAIR COLOUR

Do not, I repeat, do not give yourself a new hair colour the week of your wedding. Colour is an odd one and even the best colourist cannot predict how a new colour may oxidise. Refreshing is ok, a touch-up or a clear gloss, but under no circumstance should a brunette be going blonde.

2/ NEW HAIR CUT

This really goes hand-in-hand with the above point. Whatever you do, do not cut your hair the week of your wedding! NO CUTTING. None at all. The worst thing a bride can do is give herself a mullet the week of her wedding. With no time to grow this disastrous mistake out, you will be reminded of it forever through the beautiful photos in your wedding album. Don't waste your photographer money - don't cut your hair.

3/ MICRODERMA-NO!

Do not decide, the week of your wedding, that nothing will improve your skin like a good old fashion chemical peel or session of microdermabrasion. These treatments, done so close to the big day, will not help your skin look better. If anything, you will end up with breakouts and irritated skin. It is normal for the skin to become irritated first and then better with this sort of drastic treatment. Keep these sort of salon visits for the months, and not days, before your wedding.

4/ COLGATE SMILE

Right, teeth whitening is one of my absolute favourite beauty treatments, but please ladies, no teeth whitening before your big day! A dazzling smile is a must but you won’t feel so good about yourself if tooth sensitivity has you wincing in pain every time you take a sip of champagne. If you want to whiten your teeth, do it the month before the big day.

5/ NO BOTOX

If you have never had Botox before then please do not try it the week of your wedding. Besides it taking at least two weeks to see any major benefits, the procedure can go wrong and your line-free face may give you an actual pain in your face. Again, if you want to try this one for your big day, and I am all for getting rid of those pesky signs of ageing, then book in at least 6 months, if not a year, in advance, repeating the treatment closer to the wedding rather than trying it out for the first time.

6/ NO OVERZEALOUS GYM SESSIONS

So toning up those arms and legs is a priority for most brides-to-be, but is something that should be undertaken in the weeks and months before your wedding, and certainly not on the week of. Sure, a gym session will help with jitters and nerves, but overdoing it could leave you with muscle fatigue and general soreness. What brides wants to be limping down the aisle?

7/ BEWARE OF OVER BRONZING

Fake tan is perilous at the best of times, and no more so than on your big day. Do not even think about trying out a tanning booth or any other way of self-tanning if you have never tried it out before. If you undertake a nice faking-up on the week of your wedding you could be walking down the aisle a nice and healthy shade of orange. If you want to fake it make sure to test out your tan in the weeks before your wedding. What is done the week of your wedding cannot be undone and will be immortalised on the pages of your wedding album.

8/ DON'T OVERDO THE CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES

Ok, so we all rely on a few caffeinated beverages from time-to-time, especially to get you through those long nights of wedding planning, but please, try to cut down on coffee consumption as your wedding approaches. Caffeine is a stimulant and irritates the nervous system. Weddings are inherently stressful so you really don't need to be adding to that. In addition, caffeine is very dehydrating and can contribute to dark circles - not a nice addition for your wedding day. do the right thing and cut down.

9/ NO WAXING

If you need a lip wax do not do it the week of your wedding. This can only end in tears, and not just because of waxings associated pinch! Waxing opens the pores and so your skin may become irritated and you may experience breakouts. Just don't do it. Same goes for brows, the level of irritation seen depends on your skin type; if you have sensitive skin then you may have severe breakouts or worse! Also, over groomed brows are never a good thing!

10/ DO NOT DRINK THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR WEDDING

Right, you want to celebrate and you want to relax, and sure, a glass of wine sounds perfect, but make sure that glass doesn't turn into a bottle. The last thing you want is a nasty hangover the morning of your wedding, things are stressful enough without adding this possible outcome!

Good Luck!
