Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life and it will be celebrated annually, just like your birthday. There will be plenty of good things to remember about your wedding, and plenty to remind you, from the photos and the video, to the ring on your finger and your guest book. It’s particularly nice to look back on your wedding for your first anniversary and there are a few details you can add or keep from your wedding day to help you a year later.

Guest book time capsule

advice guest book

Turn your guest book into a time capsule of sorts, which you can’t look at until your first anniversary. You could ask your guests to write words of wisdom, date ideas or even predictions for your marriage. Or simply a message to you on your first anniversary. Then, one year after your wedding, stay at home with a bottle of wine, curl up together and take turns reading them out. It will help you relive your wedding through your guests’ eyes. Wine from your wedding

Wine bottles

If you’re picking a specific wine for your wedding day, make sure you save a bottle for your first anniversary. It’s always lovely to have a particular wine that is forever connected to your wedding day that will help take you back to that day. You might even decide to get a personalised label for the wine so that’s specifically marked for your wedding anniversary. God forbid one of you would accidentally use it to give to someone as a last minute house-warming present!

Recreate your wedding meal

Menu

You probably picked your menu very carefully, and while some of the dishes might be difficult to recreate, they can be a lot of fun especially if you’re trying to recreate them together. Even if they’re not quite what you remember from your wedding day, it’s perfect bonding time for you and your new husband. If it goes right, it’s the perfect recreation of your wedding.

Have an anniversary piñata

Anniversary pinata

Similar to your guest list time capsule, create an “anniversary piñata” for your wedding day and have your guests put in advice, jokes, romantic thoughts, whatever they want. On your first anniversary spend some time giving the piñata a good beating and start reading all the lovely and funny things your guests wrote on the day of the wedding.

Spend your anniversary at your wedding venue

Castle Leslie

Many hotels offer a complimentary night to the bride and groom a year after their wedding as part of their wedding packages. How lovely to go back to the venue it all began and spend the night a year later? Enquire about a night for your anniversary in the venue. You might even get the same food you had that day, which will save you the cooking!
