You’re going to be flashing your pearly whites from dawn until dusk on the day of your wedding, so you better make sure you’ve worked them into your beauty regime in the run up to the big day.
General maintenance
Depending on what state your teeth are in when you get engaged, and how long you have until the big day, it’s worth taking a trip to your dentist as early as possible to see what work, if any you need on them. This should be then organised as soon as possible, to make sure it’s all dealt with long before your wedding.
Go for your regular six-month check-ups and always say yes to a scale and polish. In between dental appointments, make sure you floss in the morning and before bed. We know you’re probably reading that for the 60 millionth time, nodding along and lying to yourself about how much you floss. But if you can commit to this one habit and tell yourself it’s just for the wedding, your teeth will thank you. And since it only takes three weeks to make a habit, you probably won’t have to force yourself to keep it up anyway.
Teeth Whitening
At home
If you’re using a whitening toothpaste, these usually take 3-4 weeks to produce results so you should start using this at least two months before your wedding.
If you’re using whitening strips or gel, these take about two weeks to show results, so we would recommend about a month before the big day.
Professionally
If you’re getting laser whitening for your teeth you should go 2-3 weeks before the big day. If you’re strategically planning your dental appointments so that your last scale and polish is as close to your wedding as possible you should do this right before you get your teeth whitened for maximum results.
One month to go…
Now, with about four weeks to go for your wedding, you are probably just about to focus on your whitening strategy. As you’re working through your at home treatments or in the two weeks before your laser whitening and your ‘I Dos’, you will need to watch what you eat to avoid stains.
- Blueberries
- Red wine
- Beets
- Curry
- Tea and coffee
- Cola and other soft drinks
It’s up to you how much you avoid these foods, but for the two weeks leading up to your wedding, especially after getting them whitened, it’s worth being aware of them, so you can steer clear of them, reduce them, or even just religiously brush your teeth after enjoying them.
