If you’re looking for ways to lose some weight before the big day, there are so many methods to choose from it’s hard to know which one is right for you. Don’t worry, S&P Weddings is here to help.
Also known as "The Caveman Diet", The Paleo Diet works off the strategy of using modern foods that mimic the food groups of our pre-agricultural, hunter-gatherer ancestors. As well as promising weight loss, this diet optimises health and reduces the risk of chronic diseases.
The hunter-gatherer diet it boasts consists of seven characteristics including high protein, high fibre, moderate to higher fat intake dominated by unsaturated fats, high vitamin intake, and low sodium and carb intake. Sounds simple, but diets are often easier said than done.
So what’s it all about?
The Paleo Diet really does what it says on the tin; it builds up a healthy protein and healthy fat-rich diet that matches our caveman ancestors. It consists of lean meat, plenty of fruit and vegetables, which are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
A moderate to high fat intake does not mean that extra slice of pizza or another bag of crisps. The fats you need for The Paleo Diet are all healthy, unsaturated fats and omega-3 fats. You can get these from fish, nuts, seeds, avocados and olive oil as well as ‘free-range’ or ‘grass-fed meat’ as opposed to grain-fed meat. This is because grain has the same affect on animals as it does on humans, so grass-fed animals produce leaner meat.
Foods to avoid
On The Paleo Diet there are some foods you should steer clear of. Stay away from dairy, grains, processed food, refined sugar and legumes (that’s your peas, beans, peanuts and other such foods). You should also steer clear of starches such as bread, pasta and potatoes. Without starch, protein will give you your necessary energy and help you feel full between meals
