If one specific word had to be used to describe the new Fall 2015 collection from Berta Bridal it would be inspired. The designer herself has notched up an impressive 17 years as a bridal wear creator, making the fact that she still continues to impress and wow designers and editors alike a remarkable one. While a lot of creativity can be applied to almost any bridal line by almost any designer, when it comes to Berta Bridal they always bring their innovative designs one step further each year. For this year’s collection, they credit their inspiration from a range of different sources. Drawing from the glamour of old Hollywood and charming romance of Paris to the fabled goddesses of ancient Greece and even incorporating the ethnic mystery of the Middle East. For such a diverse, deep, well of inspiration, the gowns in this collection are varied in their different designs but all are simultaneously enchanting.
If one trademark is to stand to Berta Bridal year after year it is their intricate and lavishly designed wedding dresses. Each and every single gown is fashioned with such detail and elaborate composition that it is a joy to merely look at. One of the ever loved silhouettes and quickly becoming a classic among their trademark gowns is the mermaid trail skirts with plunging necklines. Sensual and flattering, these bold wedding gowns are lavish and ornate, perfect for a bride who wants to stand out on her big day. Some of our particular favourite wedding dresses in this style were the sequin embroidered bodices and the fully sheathed lace dresses. The delicate, baroque style accents embroidered onto the dress makes it appear stylish and sophisticated, while the sheaths of lace running down the other dress makes it a classic style reinvented by a modern silhouette.
We also loved the use of tulle in some of the underskirts, which added volume and emphasis to the base of the dress making the overall silhouette appear elongated and complex. The combination of intricate detailing and unique fabric along the forefront with an explosion of light and dainty ruffles at the base made the dress appear lavish and dreamlike.
Another style staple that Berta uses on her gowns are full length sleeves and sequin embellishment. The incorporation of full sleeves onto their slim-fitted silhouettes makes for a dramatic finish on the already attention-grabbing dress. The combination of shy, covered skin with a fitted bodice is both elegant and beautiful. In particular, the dress with such an exact design that really caught our eye was the full lace sheathed gown with mermaid trail and illusion sleeves. The lace covered the dress head to toe and then when reaching the sleeves, their transparent sheer made the gown appear playful, while the appliqued lace designs towards the end of the sleeves created an air of elegance. Another similar gown in the same style was the glitter panelled silhouette dress, with a deep plunge accompanied by an embellished border and a cinched waist.
A real treat this year came in the form of the more uncommon and almost unusual style wedding gown among the Berta Bridal line – a full organza skirt. Usually not assumed to be part of their typical style of slim-fitting gowns with dramatic trails and necklines, this particular dress was a game changer. A detailed bodice with a sweetheart neckline continued down into a front panel with the same design, until the sides and the outer skirts erupted in ruffles surround the entire base. This organza style dress was a new and appreciated bold move by Berta, adding a further dimension of design to her already impressive portfolio. For this season, if a bride is looking to walk down the aisle sheathed in glamour or to finally buy that dress that represents everything she wants to be – glamorous, stylish, confident and beautiful – then Berta Bridal is the place to go.
