Floral appliques and embroidery were a massive trend on the bridal runways this season, but Naeem Khan took it to the next level with modern takes on 3D appliqués, ruffles and textures.
He also used colours and layers in a unique way to bring modern designs to the forefront of the bridal catwalks.
Naeem Khan also brought new meaning to the phrase, ‘the bride wore black’ with this stunning black ball gown with glitzy floral appliqués and embellishments. The headpiece completes the look for the bride who wants to create drama without wearing white.
For a sleeker look, the designer also created narrow column dresses with designs that stand out all on their own without the need of a big skirt. This blue strapless gown with white feathered overlay gives the gown movement and combines the look of a white bridal gown with the underlying hint of colour.
Alternatively, this narrow slip-style dress with a sensual plunging neckline is far from the bright, colourless wedding dresses we’re used to. A deep champagne shade is covered in large embroidered pink flowers.
Naeem Khan’s 2017 collection did have some traditional white gowns that were equally spectacular. Jumping at the chance to feature stunning floral appliqués and ruffles, one of our favourites is this exaggerated trumpet gown, with a figure-hugging bodice lined with flowers, exploding into a wide, layered skirt, with flowers continuing to decorate it.
Another traditional-style gown was this beautifully feminine tea-length skirt with two tiers and a fitted, floral designed strapless bodice. Perfect for showing off those stilettoes.
One of the show stoppers of the Naeem Khan collection had to be this traditional shaped gown with off the shoulder sleeves and an A-line skirt, but with his own stamp of colour and flowers. The floor-length ball gown is simple in its design with silk all the way down, but the bodice is richly decorated with blue embroidered flowers. It would save any bride a search for that something blue.
