We're still dreaming about those gorgeous gowns from New York Bridal Week over the weekend. Now that we've had time to properly process them all, we've had a chance to take in the latest trends that have emerged from the various collections and designers. There's a mixture of classic, traditional trends with modern, daring ones as bridal week gives us an explosion of ever-evolving designs and details from the top bridal designers from around the world. Here are our top five emerging trends from New York Bridal Week.
Plunging necklines
From deep V-necks that plunge all the way down the bodice of gowns, to subtle illusion necklines that are covered with a layer of chiffon, plunging necklines have come in in a big way this season and feature in a variety of collections from Bridal Week. Berta naturally features the most daring plunging necks, with sultry V-neck bodices one of her signature designs across many of her collections. However, Claire Pettibone and Marchesa also featured, plunging, albeit not as deep, necklines to expose the bride's decolletage for a sensual effect. This trend is perfect for the daring bride who wants to show off a little more skin, especially if they're arms will be covered in delicate lace.
Fit & flare shapes
Trumpets, mermaids and fit & flare gowns featured heavily across many of the designers' latest collections for Bridal Week. We saw plenty of stunning, fitted, column gowns, and even more with a flared skirt down the bottom. Berta Bridal an Marchesa both had stunningly fitted gowns with a dramatically flared skirt at the bottom, but our favourite representation of this trend from Bridal Week had to be AlfredĀ Angelo's Tiana wedding dress. Alfred Angelo is renowned for his Disney princess inspired gowns and for Bridal Week he showed off a beautiful Princess Tiana-inspired wedding dress, with a fitted gown decorated in ornate, gold designs with a dramatic flared skirt fit for a princess.
Floral appliques
Floral designs were injected into most collections from Bridal Week in some way and we absolutely loved them. Jenny Packham and Angel Sanchez both features white flower appliques on their gowns, with Jenny Packham leaving delicate white flowers trailing from the top of the bodice all the way down the column-style skirt. Angel Sanchez uses more defined flowers along the illusion sleeves or as a centrepiece of the bodice of a structured, short gown.
Intricate detail
As usual, intricate details and ornate designs decorate a number of stunning dresses during Bridal Week. Berta's dresses showcased her usual luxurious detailing on the bodices, while Marchesa, Badgley Mischka and Anna Campbell followed suit with different styles of embellishments on each of their designs. Badgley Mischka's simple gown had an ornate shawl, showing that Gatsby glamour is not going anywhere anytime soon, while Anna Campbell showed off a simple one-shoulder strap across the shoulder and bodice for a unique design on a simple gown.
Simple gowns
Speaking of simple gowns, while intricate detail and ballgowns were rife in Bridal Week, there was also a fair share of simple styles and straight, column gowns. Theia had some particularly stunning simple gowns that are perfect for the bride who wants no fuss on their gown. Jenny Packham's simple gown with a gorgeous cowl neck and sensual slit up the side of the skirt to give the dress something unique, without having too much ornate design.
