Della Giovanna draws her inspiration directly from her New York City landscape surroundings to form urbane and edgy gowns for the modern bride. Having been born and raised in the city, she knew she wanted to be a designer ever since her high school days. After attending The Fashion Institute of Technology for Design, she spent some time mentored by well-known designers before she realised her love of bridal wear. She had always loved all things beautiful, and in her penchant for gown design she combined that love with her experience of living in such a vibrant, fast-paced city. This combination translated directly into her dresses in the form of rustic accents and, as she puts it herself, she adds leather and hardware to a bridal collection like no other.
Her foremost design concept is that of bridal separates, creating each wedding gown with its own detachable corset and skirt. She prides herself on giving brides the option to choose and combine different pieces from each dress, allowing for a better gown that suits their own individual tastes and body shape. That design aspect and her introduction of edgier tailoring in chain and leather accents makes for contemporary and urban wedding dresses to suit the most daring and modern bride. She uses both statement skirts and statement embellishments to pack her gowns full of emphasis and attitude.
Della Giovanna stuck with her ever-favourite silhouette wedding dress, which is the wide fitted, A-line organza style skirts and small dainty bodices. Along with the striking additions and composition of her dresses, we also see a little eye for glitter. Della Giovanna has often combined her larger than life wedding gowns with gold chains and gold patterned skirts, to give them a glamorous, luxurious air. There is one particular gown in this collection, which she chose to adorn and decorate with gold that we absolutely loved. It consists of a one strap angled bodice in a shimmering gold that drapes around the waist, before exploding into a huge organza gown of ruffles with the gold effect bleeding into a white ombre finish. The shimmer and luminosity of the gold gave it a glamorous, luxe dimension while the flowing ruffled skirt made it a dress full of volume and appeal.
Her adornments are things of impressive wonder – some of which we love and others that shocked us. Take for example, her seemingly dainty leather straps that form an entire harness for the bodice of a gown. They manage to give it an urban edge while at the same time remaining feminine enough to accentuate the purity and sanctity of the bridal gown. On the other end of the spectrum from her dainty leather straps which complement the bodice, she created an overall encompassing sheath of chain metal to cover the bodice. This gold lattice chain ranged fully over the bride's head and down along her torso, until the skirt erupted just beneath it in a sheath of ruffles. This was definitely her most dominating and captivating piece, bringing to a close the utmost certainty that Della Giovanna can incorporate truly intense and unrelenting hardware into a world full of softness and elegance, combining an edgy glamour with a graceful silhouette dress.
It’s safe to say that if it’s a wedding gown with girly touches, individual skirts and bodices and attention-grabbing detail and accessorising, then a Della Giovanna dress is the one for you. With her statement hardware accents and grand skirts, you will wow your guests in a trendsetting wedding gown.
