Prep

Obviously, your hair and make-up will be done for your special day, just don’t forget to touch up. It’s worth taking a few snaps on the day of your hair and make-up trials so you have an idea of how your look on the day will translate in photos. Also, if you’re getting engagement photos done, get a manicure for those all-important ring shots.

Say cheese for the camera

You’ll probably feel a bit silly doing this at first, but if you find it hard to smile naturally in photographs, just practice. Forcing smiles may sound like going in the opposite direction, but trust us, the more you practice, the more natural smiling will be. If possible, try not to think about smiling but about how happy you are, to bring out the most natural smile of all.

 Have a laugh

Elicia Bryan

It’s not a bad idea to have someone on hand (or even your new partner) to make you laugh. The extra trick here is not to supress it into a frozen smile. Natural laughter often gives way to the best smiles, and some natural shots of you and your new husband laughing can be the best shots.

Location, location, location

The K Club

Scope out where your photographs are going to be taken at all locations. Where’s the best place outside the church for photos? What about your reception venue? Are there gardens? Also, think about plan Bs in terms of weather, what if it’s raining, or even if it’s not but the grass is wet, where will you be standing?

Loosen up

Camera tips

Make sure your arms aren’t rigidly up against your body and you’re not awkwardly frozen in place like a mannequin. If you have to shake yourself, jump around or do a little lap, do it. It’s your wedding day so relax. Fluidity and relaxed poses comes across beautifully in photographs. Also, don’t keep your bouquet stationed in front of you; you’re not trying to block yourself, hold it at your hip.
