These are one of the greatest excuses known to womankind to gather for a good gossip, catch up and fun-filled evening. The bridal shower is an event before the wedding when the bride can unwind and enjoy an evening with her nearest and dearest, while allowing herself to get fully excited for the future that she is about to have. It’s a time where she can breathe a sigh of relief that the finish line is in sight, and she has chosen the best women currently in her life to help her cross that line.
Bridal showers can come in all shapes and sizes, and should adhere to suit the taste of each individual bride. And no, we’re not referring to those wild weekends away called bachelorette parties. That’s a whole different kettle of booze-filled fish. When we think bridal shower, we think afternoon tea, calorific cakes, bubbling champagne, shared stories lined with wisdom and laughter-filled games. Bridal showers are the classy, aunt and great aunt friendly version of the bachelorette party. It’s the perfect stress free time to allow the bride to unwind around friends and family, relax and have a giggle.
The party is usually organised or hosted by the chief bridesmaid, with a very appreciated helping hand lent by the rest of the bridesmaids. It’s best to situate these affairs in a hotel, tea room or even an outdoor garden (fine weather permitting). Always make sure you invite and fully carter for the number of guests you will be expecting, whether it’s just a few stacks of sandwiches and cakes or five star canapés and wine. It’s also best to create a general itinerary for the evening, to serve more as a guideline than anything else for the events of the evening. Never stick too strictly to this schedule though; unlike the wedding day itself, allow the bride the luxury of spontaneity and impulsiveness at the bridal shower – if the mood strikes for another game or a second trip to the wine store – grab your keys.
