When it comes to your wedding, the important thing to remember is that it is your wedding. There will probably be plenty of times that restrictions, family wishes, budgetary limits and other things will get in the way. However, it’s essential that you don’t forget how to create your dream wedding.
Think big
Before you worry about the budget, the family or anything else, you have think big. Think about what you want for your dream wedding if you had no limits or restrictions. You can always scale it back from there once the budget and other things have to come into play. The important thing is that you know exactly what kind of wedding and style you want without being influenced by anything else.
Collect inspiration from everywhere
From sites and Pinterest to newspapers and bridal magazines, (S&P Weddings is mandatory reading of course!) but also from anywhere else that you see fit. If you see a pretty notepad with a design you like, keep it. If a perfume box has a nice detail on it that you want to replicate, save it. If someone has curtains in the perfect shade of coral, take a picture. Inspiration comes from the strangest of places, especially when it comes to style and décor. Don’t just hit up the usual suspects for ideas.
Explore your passions
Take a look at your life. What are the most important things to you? What are your hobbies, your passions? What about your husband-to-be? Do you share a deep love of music? Are you a lover of the literary greats? Do you both yearn to travel the world? There are plenty of ways to incorporate your passions into your dream wedding, and why not? It’s a great way to make the wedding really personal and for your guests to appreciate your décor choices beyond the colours you chose.
Decide on the type of event you’re having
Would you prefer a big gathering with all your friends and family or would you prefer an intimate affair with just your nearest and dearest. How about the best of both and follow up your intimate dinner with a bigger party? Do you want your dream wedding to be a formal affair with tuxes all around, or a more laid back gathering? Again, budget and other restrictions aside, think about what kind of event you really want your wedding to be and work from there.
Prioritise what’s important
Once you have a handle on what ‘limitless’ event you want, how big you want it and any other extras that are important to you, it’s time to write them all down and decide what is most important, because that’s where the budget comes in. Is it more important that you get your dream venue? Are you willing to sacrifice some of your guest list in favour of the photographer you have your heart set on? It’s easier to prioritise what you want more and what you can compromise on once you know what you want.
Hone in on your style
Keep looking for inspiration on your fashion style, your décor style and anything else. Once you have a lot of inspiration picked out you will have unknowingly started picking out similar styles and colours. Look at everything you’ve picked out and pay attention to repetitive styles and patterns and you will be able to see what you really want. That goes for your dress as much as your overall décor and style that will make yoiur dream wedding perfect.
Choose your dream wedding colours
Finalise you colour choices for your dream wedding. The same thing will happen when it comes to what you’ve been unknowingly favouring over a few months of randomly selecting inspiration. You’ll probably be picking similar shades and tones over and over again and once you decide what colour you want your bridesmaids and flowers, the rest is easy.
