You've been tasked with planning the holiday of the century, your best friend's bachelorette party. Gone are the days when veil-clad bar hopping in Dublin City was the perfect way to celebrate your bestie tying the knot. Now finding the perfect bachelorette party tops many a maid's to-do list. The real question is, to go abroad or not to go abroad?
With so many fabulous bachelorette party locations in Europe alone, it can be hard to choose where to go. Luckily, we've taken a bit of the guesswork out of the equation for you. So pick out the swimsuit, slap on some SPF and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime - the girls are going global!
When Do You Start Planning?
Our biggest piece of advice is to start planning as soon as possible! One of the first things you should discuss with the bride is her expectations for the celebration, how long she wants to go for, where she wants to go and what she wants to do. This gives you a great idea of budget to save for, and dates that would suit you better than others and allows you to shop around for the best deals. If your newly engaged bestie wants to go skiing in France then you'll want to book for February or if they want a beach holiday in the Maldives then you'll want to do it in the dry season (November to April). This also gives everybody enough time to plan their time off and go shopping!
Setting the Budget
This is very dependent on the group going. If you're all in your early 20's then expecting everybody to have the spare cash for a lush holiday can be quite unfair, especially if the bridesmaids are also covering the cost of their dresses, hair and make-up for the wedding. If you're willing to do the extra work, once you've settled on a location put together a few different variations of the same holiday package for the group to choose from with different price points. This can take a little bit of pressure off of anybody who doesn't feel super comfortable sharing their financial information with the group but doesn't necessarily want to break the bank on a girls' trip.
Who Pays?
Traditionally, each bachelorette party attendee pays their own way and also chips in to cover the cost of the bride. This can depend on the overall cost of the trip though. If the bachelorette party is a multi-day affair that requires hopping on a plane, it’s more common for a bride to pay her own way, especially when it comes to transportation and lodging. Occasionally, a maid of honour or sister might cover the bride’s trip entirely, but what’s more common is for the entire group to chip in to cover the bride’s portion of a specific activity or meal during the getaway.
Who Do We Invite?
As with any holiday, the more people you add, the more complicated things become. You have to imagine the issues with finding a date that works for 15 (or more) people, setting a budget that everyone is happy paying and finding a location that suits everybody's needs; seems pretty hard doesn't it? Have a chat with your bride about who she wants to attend, but we highly suggest keeping things simple and sticking to the bridal party.
How Involved Should The Bride Be?
This is dependent on the bride and how she wants things to be run, if she's chill and laidback then feel free to take the reigns on the planning, but if she's a little bit of a control freak then make sure you're not causing her undue stress by keeping her in the dark. You should, of course, make sure she's happy for her bachelorette party to be in another country, she should be happy with the chosen country (Or region if you're trying to surprise her) and she should be happy with the amount of money it's going to cost (unless the bridesmaids are planning on paying for her). At the end of the day, this is a celebration of her so her happiness should be the highest priority.
