There’s plenty you’ll be well prepared by the time your wedding day comes around. With all the planning and preparing, you’re probably thinking there isn’t much that will surprise you, but believe it or not, there are some things you wouldn’t expect.

Everything may not be perfect

You’ve put so much time and effort into planning your big day that surly nothing can go wrong, right? Unfortunately, if Murphy’s Law has taught us anything, it’s that that’s exactly what will happen, even if you’ve planned everything to absolute perfection, someone will do something that’s out of your control. Or it might just rain. Either way, it’s important to realise that it’s still your wedding day, and that’s more important than any minor detail or weather scenario.

You might not cry

Everyone else probably will be and they’ll all be expecting you to crack at the vows. While it is a common occurrence, sometimes an odd calm comes over the bride where she doesn’t get teary at all. Even if you’re one of these people that breaks down in tears, even when they see a sad advert on TV, you might just not feel like crying on your big day. Don’t worry, it’s not a bad thing, and it doesn’t mean you’re not effected. In fact, it’s what many brides worry about so if you can get away with not crying, more power to you! At least you make up will still be intact.

On the other hand, you might cry over spilled milk

The reverse of not crying, is crying too much. All the stress of planning and choosing wedding details along with nerves and sleepless nights means your emotions will be on a knife’s edge. So don’t panic if you feel your eyes welling up because you dropped your fork. You’ll be overwhelmed by the time it comes to your wedding day, so any little thing can set you off. You’ll probably know pretty early on in the day if this is going to happen to you so just make sure you alert a bridesmaid to the fact so that she can keep you calm.

Your cheeks will hurt

On the other side of the emotional spectrum, you cheeks will most likely hurt from smiling so much. Between smiling all morning for pictures, to smiling with your parents when you’re ready to go, to smiling throughout the ceremony, followed by more pictures and smiling back at all your guests, you may feel like you’ll have to unscrew your jaw by the end of the night. But sore cheeks from too much smiling is surely a very good complaint to have.

You may not get to eat

Yes, we’ve tackled this issue many times before, making sure you eat something is definitely a job for your bridesmaids because it certainly can’t be a job left to you. Between mingling, running around and guests coming up to talk to you, it’s possible to actually miss dinner, especially with so much on you mind. This is why a big breakfast is important on the morning of the wedding, as well as giving your bridesmaids the task of making sure you eat no matter what at different points during the day.

You won’t see much of your new husband

It’s your wedding day, the day you marry your new husband, so naturally, you should see plenty of each other. But you won’t. The most time you’ll probably spend with him is the ceremony, the photographs and the first dance. Even the meal won’t be just the two of you. Don’t worry, you have the rest of your lives together, and your wedding day is really a special day for you to mingle and share with your families. Just don’t be surprised if you only see him a few times during the day. It’s more normal than you would think.

You will suffer with the post-wedding blues

As with all extreme highs, the inevitable come down will follow. Even if it was the most stressful time of your life, and part of you is glad it’s over, another part of you will totally overwhelm the first part and would go back and do it all again in a heartbeat. Post-wedding blues are totally normal, but don’t worry, when you’re on the cusp of the comedown, thinking you have nothing to look forward to after the wedding day is over, that’s what the honeymoon is for!
