Laura Hughes married Shaun Modi at Dromoland Castle earlier this year. Originally from Mayo, Laura, who now lives in America with Shaun, first met her husband-to-be on a work night out."It started with me persisting that his name was not spelt correctly - where was the fad after all?"
The couple chose to come back to Ireland for the wedding, and picked Dromoland Castle in Clare, followed by Hotel Westport in Mayo the following day especially for the American guests. "The hair came down, we danced for hours and ended with an unconventional sing-song in the hotel bar."
Living over in America and planning a wedding in Ireland was not easy, but thanks to her mum, Laura pulled it off. "I live five thousand miles away from Ireland and the thoughts of putting on this event was stressful. My mom was such a rock."
Once they picked their venue, Laura and Shaun's wedding was less than five months away and Laura said having her mum's support and commitment was crucial. "She blew everyone away. Bottom line - let your mom run with it, she knows you better than you think!"
Laura's own dress was from a small boutique, Loho Bride, reccommended by a friend. As for the bridesmaids outfits, even she admits she spent more time on them. The handmade tops were from Etsy and the ballerina skirts were from Alexandra Grecco in New York.
