Michelle and Tom tied the knot in mid-September in a small, pretty church in Straffan in Kildare. According to Michelle, they decided on The K Club from the moment they got engaged. “We have been there quite a few times for dinner and communions and we have always been treated so well by the staff. Everyone is so friendly and always there to help. The grounds around The K Club are just stunning and we knew any photos outside would be beautiful.” Photography by Elisha Clarke.
Michelle and Tom met ten years ago at another wedding in Tullamore and were inseparable from that moment on. Tom popped the question during the May bank holiday in 2013. “We decided to have a surprise meal in The Village at Lyons and tell our families. It was a really great time and everyone was so happy for us.”
Michelle bought her stunning gown in Ciara Bridal in Powerscourt in Dublin and was made in Spain by Novia D’art. “I knew it was the one as soon as I tried it on! The lace was soft and it fell perfectly! I added a lace train to the dress which gave a lovely bustle effect when I tied it up for the first dance.” She opted not to wear a veil and instead, chose a diamond encrusted comb from Gerry Browne Jewellers in Portlaoise.
At the reception in The K Club, they had a drinks reception in the Yeats room with Pimms, wine, lemonade and tea and coffee. “There was also gorgeous mini sponge cakes, sandwiches and cookies served on vintage style cake stands.”
Their fabulous wedding cake was made up of three different flavour tiers: Carrot cake, red velvet and praline biscuit cake. “The wedding dinner was amazing with a never ending supply of wine and we were so lucky to be given the Viceroy suite that night and as a gift we were given champagne and personalised champagne flutes!”
Both self-employed, the happy couple were able to work around their jobs to concentrate on wedding planning and crafty Michelle made a lot of the decorations herself, from the fabric bows on the pews and the decorated vases, to the guest book, place names and even the flower girls’ bouquets. “I really enjoyed making everything for the wedding. I knew exactly what I wanted to make and I was delighted how everything turned out. It was hard work and at times it was a little stressful but I wouldn’t change a thing.”
